Crystal lake park ride - urbana
Crystal Lake has multi-use sidepaths and a nice low-speed low-volume road that you can use to bike through the park. There is a sidewalk that turns into a multi-use path along Broadway you can use to make a loop if you want to stay off Broadway. It is less than two miles to do the loop and there is lots of parking available off of Park Street and along the park roadway. Mattis park-boulware trail loop - champaign
The Mattis Park-Boulware Trail Loop offers a 2-mile loop using off-road pathways and bike lanes on Fox Drive. You need to cross Devonshire Drive at two locations, but the traffic volumes are low enough to cross safely with caution. Stonecreek multi-use path
You can ride for nearly 4 miles on this off-road loop that includes the multi-use pathway through the Stonecreek subdivision and the Urbana multi-use pathway that runs along High Cross Road and then next to Windsor. The multi-use pathway also branches to the north at High Cross Road/130 and ends at Riggs Brewery. You can park on the street in Stonecreek. Kaufman-heritage loop - champaign
Kaufman Park offers plenty of free parking and off-road pathways for bicycling. You can bicycle around the lake and then head north to Heritage Park and bicycle the loop around the lake there. The entire ride is 2.2 miles with lots of natural habitat to see. One stretch of this route has been washed out and is gravel. You can get through, but be forewarned. Kickapoo trail
The Kickapoo Trail offers a beautiful off-road multi-use trail that you access to ride on long or short rides. The trail runs for 6.7 miles between Urbana and St. Joseph. The map provided starts at the Alma Mater at Wright and Green. The route is 20.3 miles there and back. If you want a shorter route you can begin at the Walmart parking lot where you can park for free and bike the 6.7 miles there and back. The trail is paved in a few sections, but is mostly unpaved. There are historical and nature informational signs along the trail that tell you about the ecosystems and history of various locations along the route. When you arrive in St. Joseph you can visit local shops for a treat downtown or cycle further east on the paved pathway the Village of St. Joseph has installed. Another option is to park at Weaver Park in Urbana where a paved parking lot, portable bathroom and bike repair station. There is a multi-use sidepath in Weaver Park that transitions into an on-road bike lane at Dodson Drive. The bike lane ends further east near Dewey Street and from there to the trailhead at E. Main Street Spur cyclists share the road with vehicles. If you ride the entire loop to St. Joseph and back from the Wal-Mart it is 12.8 miles. hessel park loop - champaign
This mostly off-street route between Mattis Park and Hessel Park is fun and safe for the whole family. The ride spans 4 miles round-trip with parking available along Devonshire Drive. All paths are paved and provide signaled crosswalks across Devonshire Drive and Kirby Avenue. However, special care should be taken when crossing major streets. Enjoy this hidden gem of lush greenspace and scenic ponds in the heart of our community!
