Traffic Skills 101: Smart cycling class - Saturday, may 27, 2023
This class will teach you emergency maneuvers, roadway safety skills and more. The 9-hour course is organized into two parts:
Part 1: 4.5-hour online classroom instruction available for free at bikeed.org
Part 2: 4.5-hour on-bike instruction includes: basic bike handling skills, emergency maneuvers, and a supervised road ride to practice new skills
Registration fee includes materials and manual. Scholarships are available contact: choyle@mtd.org
Students need to provide their own bikes and helmets. Helmets are required gear.
To access the location you can take the MTD Ruby 110 bus from Lincoln Square to the bus stop in front of the facility. Free parking is available if you drive.
Upon completion of Parts 1 and 2, you are eligible to go through training to become a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) and be able to train all levels of riders how to confidently and effectively cycle for fun, fitness, and transportation.
If inclement weather results in cancellation of the class it will be rescheduled for another date.

Beginning Bicycling for Adults - April 9th, 1:30pm to 4:00pm
Want to bike more, but lack confidence? This is a course for adult cyclists who know how to bicycle but want to learn basic safety skills. The class will include learning proper riding techniques for riding safely in and out of traffic as well as Illinois Rules of the Road for bicyclists. This class is free, but preregistration is required.

earn-a-bike 2021
C-U Safe Routes to School Project partnered with Champaign County Bikes and Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club in Champaign to conduct Earn-A-Bike in the summer of 2021. The program is designed to teach student participants basic bike maintenance, mechanisms, and repairs, and safety while riding on the road. The program allows kids to earn a bike as they develop proficiency in basic bike riding, safety and maintenance skills. Four students participated in this year's Earn-A-Bike program which took place from August 2 through 5. The four day program includes The C-U SRTS team recruited volunteers who were central to the success of this program. Check the C-U Safe Routes to School website to learn more!
