NATIONAL Bike Month 2023
Traffic Skills 101: Smart Cycling Class - Saturday, May 27
This class will teach you emergency maneuvers, roadway safety skills and more. The 9-hour course is organized into two parts:
Part 1: 4.5-hour online classroom instruction available for free at bikeed.org
Part 2: 4.5-hour on-bike instruction includes: basic bike handling skills, emergency maneuvers, and a supervised road ride to practice new skills.
Registration fee includes materials and manual. Scholarships are available contact: choyle@mtd.org
Students need to provide their own bikes and helmets. Helmets are required gear.
To access the location you can take the MTD Ruby 110 bus from Lincoln Square to the bus stop in front of the facility. Free parking is available if you drive.
Upon completion of Parts 1 and 2, you are eligible to go through training to become a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) and be able to train all levels of riders how to confidently and effectively cycle for fun, fitness, and transportation.
If inclement weather results in cancellation of the class it will be rescheduled for another date.

Bike and Roll to School Day 2023
The 2023 Bike & Roll to School Day event was held Wednesday, May 3rd. BRTSD events work to create safer routes for bicycling and walking and emphasize the importance of a range of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, cyclist and pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.

Walk n' Roll to School Day 2022
The Champaign-Urbana community celebrated Walk n' Roll to School Day (WRTSD) on Wednesday, October 12! WRTSD promotes walking as an active, sustainable, and fun way to get to school! We had U of I athletes, Urbana Mayor Diane Marlin, and several C-U SRTS volunteers join students at six elementary schools in the area.
Bike to Work Day 2022
Bike to Work Day (BTWD) was held on Wednesday, September 14 from 7 AM to 10 AM. There were 16 BTWD welcome stations across Champaign, the U of I campus, Urbana, Savoy, Mahomet, Rantoul, and St. Joseph. Check out the fun videos and pictures below!
Light the Night 2022
Light the Night (LTN) was held on Thursday, September 15 from 4 PM to 7 PM. There were 3 LTN stations on the University of Illinois campus (Alma Mater Plaza, Hallene Gateway, and Campus Bike Center) that distributed lights to those who brought their bike. Check out the pictures below!

Ride of Silence 2022!
The Ride of Silence is an annual international bicycle ride to commemorate cyclists killed and support those injured while riding on public roads. The ride will be held on May 18th this year. Our goal is to raise awareness among motorists, the public and decision makers of the dangers cyclists face on the roads, especially from other traffic. We will meet at the I-Hotel parking lot on the north side at 6:00 p.m.
In 2021 we had about 45 cyclists and two Urbana Police Officers join us for our ride May 19th!

Bike And Roll to school day 2022!
Bike and Roll to School Day 2022 was held on Wednesday, May 4th as part of National Bike Month! It was a chilly morning, but we still had plenty of students come to the bike stations and distributed plenty of t-shirts and materials.
Students from several schools in the Urbana and Champaign area biked to school along with parents, teachers and community leaders. Students from Urbana High School’s Project Ignition Club, led by Judy Weber-Jones, assisted with a Bike Station near the Urbana Aquatics Center that morning. Urbana Middle School and Urbana High School Students who took the online Illinois Bike Safety Quiz picked up their free Bike Month t-shirts, reflectors, bike lights, and bike safety information at the bike station. Over 80 Urbana Middle and 200 Urbana High School students have taken the Bike Safety Quiz as part of this program. Urbana Mayor Diane Marline read a proclamation declaring Bike and Roll to School Day in Urbana.
Additionally, Urbana High School Project Ignition Club students Elena Poulosky, Isiah Menard, and Park Mitchell attended the Illinois Student Safety Project Competition (ISSP) in Effingham, IL, the following day. They won Gold Level recognition for the following categories: Illinois Safety School Club of the Year, Best Community Safety Project, Best T-Shirt Award, and Outstanding Youth Safety Student of the Year Award (Park Mitchell). Congratulations on these students for their outstanding work!
We also would like to give a shoutout to our volunteers: Evan Alvarez, Briana Barr, Kara Dudek-Mizel, Audrey Ishii, Rose Kaczmarowski, Gabe Lewis, Jenna Quintana, Dan Saphiere, Charlie Smyth, Thomas Valencia, and Lily Wilcock.
The BRTSD events were organized by the C-U Safe Routes to School Project, Urbana High School Project Ignition, Champaign County Bikes, the City of Urbana, Urbana School District 116, and Champaign Unit 4 School District with support from MTD.
Students biked to the following schools:
