Traffic Skills 101: Smart cycling classES
The Traffic Skills 101 course gives adult cyclists the confidence they need to ride safely and legally in traffic or on trails. The 9-hour course is divided into two parts: a 4.5-hour online instruction session and a 4.5-hour on-bike session. Upon completion, participants are eligible to go through training to become a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) and be able to train all levels of riders how to confidently and effectively cycle for fun, fitness, and transportation!
The most recent Traffic Skills 101 class was held on Saturday, September 7, 2024. 11 students participated and the whole group passed the course! Many of them will go on to participate in a future LCI seminar.

bike rodeos
A Bike Rodeo is a bicycle skills event that provides an opportunity for young bicyclists to practice and develop skills that will help them to become better bicyclists and avoid typical crashes. The goal of any Bicycle Rodeo is to provide an opportunity for the participants to learn, practice, and demonstrate their bicycle handling skills in a fun, noncompetitive atmosphere.
An evaluator provides immediate feedback to the participant in a positive manner (satisfactory; needs improvement), and if the child has difficulty with a particular lesson, he or she has the chance to keep practicing. The C-U SRTS PROJECT has conducted Bike Rodeos for various schools and civic groups in the community.
The most recent Bike Rodeo was held June 22, 2024 in collaboration with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Champaign, IL. 42 young cyclists participated and dozens of bikes were purchased by local families.
