BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY
National Bike to School Day provides an opportunity for communities across the country to support and encourage students to be more active through walking and bicycling, teach safe bicycling behavior, and encourage drivers to watch for child cyclists and share the road appropriately. In Champaign-Urbana, Bike to School Day has been a successful event with a constant participation over the past seven years.
This year's Bike to School Day, on May 8, 2019 was a success. Urbana High School, Urbana Middle School, Yankee Ridge Elementary, Westview Elementary, and Holy Cross Elementary all registered as a part of Bike to School Day. U of I planning students along with Cynthia Hoyle volunteered at a joint Urbana High School/Urbana Middle School station. Healthy breakfast options were handed out as well as bike lights, reflectors, locks, and bike safety materials to participating students.
